Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy has been shown to be very successful for people with a range of different issues and behaviours.

Sessions are split into two main parts: the first part is psychotherapy where a person is encouraged to understand their brain and behaviours and what can be done, and the wonderful guided relaxation experience whilst in a trance state.

Most people need between 8 and 12 sessions and these are approximately 1 hour in length.

Addictions

If you are suffering from an addiction or dependency then hypnotherapy may be able to help you. There are a wide range of addictions from alcohol and drugs to gambling and food. When treating addiction, hypnotherapy sessions are split into two parts: a psychotherapy or talking element along with hypnosis. The talking part of the session helps you to understand why you are addicted to the activity or substance and how you can help yourself. Hypnosis then takes you into a relaxing trance state where the subconscious mind can be accessed.

Anger

Anger is a primitive response. When we feel threatened in any way,  we make ourselves big, loud and strong to scare or fight off any attackers. Our ancestors used this response to keep us alive when hunting and gathering in the wild. However, this response is no longer necessary in a world that doesn’t pose the same threat.

Anxiety Disorders

Overthinking and catastrophising is a primitive response. When our brain believes we are in danger, whether real or imagined, it will go to worst case scenario to help us plan for the danger. Life or death situations and extremely rare and therefore the primitive brain is overreacting. This is where hypnotherapy can help.

Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Support

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be a powerful complementary therapy aimed at improving emotional well-being, enhancing coping mechanisms, and reducing the physical and psychological side effects associated with cancer treatment.  Cancer treatment can provoke high levels of stress and anxiety due to fears around treatment, side effects, and the future. Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system through guided relaxation and positive mental rehearsal, making it easier for the patient to face treatment with a greater sense of control and calm.

Childbirth

Our brain can easily decide something is a threat. It may be something that we’re scared of, something that we’re anticipating or something that we haven’t experienced before. When our brain decides that something is a threat, it will prepare us for danger. This includes catastrophising and overthinking the event and both of these things can cause us anxiety and panic. It can make us want to avoid. This can be true for childbirth. Hypnotherapy can help us to be rational about childbirth so that we are calm, positive and in control.

Confidence Building

Our survival brain can often tell us that situations feel too scary, too intimidating. Maybe we don’t feel confident in a room full of people, maybe we are apprehensive about going for that job. Hypnotherapy can help us to build confidence and raise our self esteem.

Depression / Low Mood

One of our primitive survival responses is depression. Depression can lead us to fear anything and everything, can encourage us to avoid situations that feel scary and can keep us in a cycle of negativity and low mood. Hypnotherapy can treat depression through rewiring the brain to put us back in control. It also improves sleep and emotional regulation.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating, are often rooted in complex issues, including negative body image, emotional dysregulation, and unhealthy patterns of thinking. Hypnotherapy works to help individuals reframe these patterns, build self-esteem, and develop healthier coping strategies. It emphasises solution-building, focusing on the person’s strengths and resources to make meaningful changes.

OCD

Obsession is a survival mechanism. When under threat or in danger, it makes sense for your brain to be extra vigilant. Being on high alert and scanning your surroundings is essential for safety and survival. Hypnotherapy works by accessing the unconscious mind, where our habits, behaviours and emotions are controlled.

Phobia

Phobia can lead to anxiety, panic or avoidance which can limit a person’s quality of life or the way that a person chooses to live their life. Hypnotherapy can help with all phobias but some common phobias may include flying, spiders and needles.

Sports, Performance and Success

Research has shown that visualising success is an effective way to improve performance and increase success. Hypnotherapy uses the power of visualisation to increase performance. Through using the 5 senses and using the intellectual brain to reframe the event or task, a person will be more successful in their goals.  Research has shown that athletes who visualise crossing the finish line first are more likely to do it!

Stopping Smoking and Vaping

The primitive brain believes that smoking and vaping is helpful and it can be a powerful advocate for arguments that ‘smoking and vaping is good for stress’, ‘it helps to cope with the day’, ‘it helps you enjoy life a bit more’.

Sadly, the primitive mind has got it completely wrong - smoking and vaping can actually be a cause of stress and anxiety. When we are in our intellectual brain, we know that we don’t need to smoke or vape, nor do we want to. Hypnotherapy allows us to access our intellectual brain so that we can make the right choices about smoking and vaping.

Stress

Stress can fill our buckets which can cause us to be in the primitive brain where we feel unable to cope with life. This can lead to overwhelm, avoidance, over thinking and anger. Whilst we may not be able to control some of the things that happen to us, hypnotherapy can help us control how we think about them and how we choose to respond  to them. It can also get our sleep back on track.

Weight Management

Many people overeat or eat the wrong foods too often because they are making a decision based on emotion. Making food choices when stressed, when rushed, when sad or even when joyful. In some cases, people consume food without much thought at all. Hypnotherapy creates new habits of behaviour and puts us into our rational brain where we can make decisions based on intellect and positive choice.
